Pressing matters

I've just completed a few days in Cape Town quality checking print work on the Richemont annual report. Armed with my iPhone I took the opportunity to shoot some video (between passing the various sections) to give a very brief insight into the production process - there's a lot of machinery at work, but hopefully you can hear the commentary!

The offset-litho printing technique has been around for many years, but print technology has constantly developed with most workflows now executed in digital format, artwork files are converted and planned on screen then transferred directly to the printing plates.

There's also been major developments in ink and varnish production, the reduced use of water and alcohol in the print process, the improvement in paper making to eliminate chlorine and addition of recycled waste content into manufacturing - all contribute to considerably reducing the harmful environmental impact printing can bring.

If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the print production process please drop me a line.

As for the future? It's all going digital, and it's happening now.
