Developing the Investment proposition
Developing the Investment proposition
Finding the right hook
To find out what would motivate people’s interest in the region as a business location, we spoke to investors, specialist agencies responsible for attracting foreign direct investment into the UK, and businesses who had already located in the Thames Gateway.
This highlighted the combination of proximity to London and the region’s strong links into Europe was a fundamental starting point. In additional, a real motivator for investors was the potential for unconstrained business growth and the sense of freedom offered by the region.
Our research also highlighted key facts about the Thames Gateway that would make the promise of unconstrained growth real:
- Access to London’s £165 billion economy
- Access to 21 million potential consumers
- Availability of a skilled yet affordable workforce
- Substantially lower business costs
- Excellent transport connections
- Olympic 2012 opportunities
The unique combination of these 6 factors represented a unique business opportunity for investors to exploit, and provide tangible evidence to support the overall idea of ‘business growth’ as the core proposition.
